Manuel & Problem

I have a Craftsman GT5000 with a 25 hp Kohler. It has a 54" deck & auto transmission. It starts fine, but while sitting in the seat when I depress the brake to release the parking brake, it immediately kills the engine as though I was not in the seat. I cleaned everything, replaced both the seat deadman switch & the switch by the brake and it is still doing the same thing, stopping the engine when the parking brake is released. I use the tractor daily and can ill afford to be without it. Thanks, Mac

  • Safety Switch

Hi, it sounds to me like it is the safety switch that's located on the clutch arm. Most mowers have 3 safety switches. ( clutch, pto, seat. Please take a look were the clutch arm is located. I hope that helps. Chris

I have this same mower and had the same problem after six years. There is a switch part # 176138 (Switch interlock Push-in) that is located on the left side of the shaft thst goes from the clutch/brake. If you replace this it may solve your problem. I think it's about $11.00 from Sears.

I bought new clutch & seat switches & replaced them. Same problem! I have since noticed that if it dies, if I wiggle the wires under the seat it starts working. I am now thinking that it is in the wiring connection that goes into the seat switch. Thanks guys.
