A good chance is that the Main voltage regulator transistor on the regulator circuit board is bad. A new transistor will cost about $20 and you will need someone to unsolder the old one and solder in the new one. The original part number is IRGPC20S, identified as Q1. A suitable generic replacement is available from NTE Electronics, the NTE 3311.
